History of the Logan House
Kelly's Logan House has been a part of Wilmington's landscape since 1864. In 1889 the building was purchased by "Whiskers" Kelly and has been in the family ever since. The Logan House has seen many changes in its' 139 year history. It was originally a hotel named after Civil War hero, General John Logan. It hosted such notable figures as Al Capone, Wild Bill Hickock and the boxer, John L. Sullivan.
Locals could be seen arriving on horseback to have a draft with friends at the Logan House towards the end of the 19th century. Soon after you could arrive by the trolley that ran up and down Delaware Avenue. In the first half of the 20th century, the area across the street now known as Trolley Square was home to the trolley station yard and a Baltimore & Ohio railroad station was located where Acme now stands. With all this history, The Logan House survived through the times and change and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior.
Today the area is populated by people from all walks of life. Many shops and small businesses freckle the area, while some of the world's largest corporations employ a large part of the community. However, with all this diversity we are still a tight knit community in which we are proud to be the cornerstone. And because of this community, we have had visitors from different parts of the country and world who had heard of this famous local establishment. We appreciate your business and thank you. We have grown a lot in our first five years in the restaurant business and it is nice to see familiar faces as well as new ones that continue to grow with us.
The staff at the Logan House is also a tight knit group that takes pride in their work and in the products they prepare and serve. We enjoy being locally owned and operated so we can interact with as many of our patrons as possible. We gladly listen to comments and suggestions and implement some of them whenever possible.
So just sit back, have a drink and watch life roll by. We'll take care of the rest!
